Entrenched

The war is longer and harsher than expected.  Resolve must be found and courage redoubled.

The good fight is not as pristine as anticipated, yet the mud and blood must be wiped away or simply endured if there is to be any prevailing integrity.  The darkness cannot win.  And should it overwhelm despite the struggle, let it be said that its cost was dear and those who came to fight for generous virtues stood fast and did not yield.

The war is longer and harsher than expected.  Nonetheless, I refuse to retreat.  The universe does not believe in good.  It does not believe in fairness, in morality, in honor, in forgiveness, and it does not believe in the possibility of chaste intention.  It does not believe in you.

But I do.
