Music Monday: The Incomparable Etta James

Etta James is in her final days, according to doctors and while I was reserving this week’s Music Monday blog for some yuletide tuneage, I shove all that aside to honour her.

If you don’t know who Etta James is, go here.  Don’t come back until you’ve spent half an hour reading about or listening to Etta James.  If you can’t fill that time with Etta then maybe blues ain’t your thing.  Me; well, I’ve been listening to Etta sing probably since before I was out of the crib.

Some songs will be around for as long as there are people who listen to music.  This is one of them:

UPDATE: Sadly, Etta James passed away on Friday, January 20, at the age of 73. She was fondly remembered by a great many people and, effectively, the music community is in mourning for the loss of one of its greatest luminaries and uncontested talents.
